GrokVNC Viewer is an implementation of the RFB protocol. It allows you to connect to a remote VNC server and take full remote control of that machine . Similar in many ways to Windows Remote Desktop/Terminal Services, it will happily connect to a VNC server running on MacOS, linux, BSD, any flavour of Windows, and a number of other operating systems too. One of a number of notable advantages of our implementation is that there is a Portable Application version that will happily run from a USB pen drive, does not require any form of installation, and will not touch the registry or hard disk of the host computer in any way. This is ideal for support, or for situations where you need to borrow a PC to connect to a remote computer, but don't want to leave any hostnames, passwords or anything else lying around for other users of that PC to pick up.
There's no installer, and no additional DLLs. Just an EXE file that you run to start a VNC session. What could be simpler? The zip files below contain the EXE and a small readme.txt file.
Version 1.00.02, released 11/August/2009 fixes a number of minor bugs in the previous releases.
The standard version remembers its settings in the registry on your PC, just like any typical application: GrokVNCViewer_1.00.02.zip (549KB)
The portable application version is functionally exactly the same, except that it leaves no traces of its existence on the host PC after it's shut down. It stores its settings in an an ini file in the same folder as the EXE, making it ideal for running from a USB pen drive. GrokVNCViewer_1.00.02_PORTABLE.zip (550KB)
